Fortuna – SOLD

Acrylic on canvas
2010
22 x 52 inches

Fortuna was the Goddess of Fortune and personification of luck in Roman religion, and came to represent life’s capriciousness.

She was also a goddess of fate.

Here she lies surveying the ocean with its’ waves and currents. She is strong, and totally in control of herself and her rights as a woman.

The semi-transparency of the figure is the way in which I describe the energetic make-up of our molecular selves as human, at once mortal and solid and at the same time transparent and spiritual. Red signifies the vibrant sexuality of her body and of the female figure.

It is best to have Fortuna by our side to survey the scene, and give us a head’s-up on life’s changing fortunes.
