Woman In Red

The woman in red represents the lost land, flooded valley, of the great Columbia River in Canada. The river makes a grand circle through Canada and the United States and enters the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. In the 19th century it became the lifeblood of trade and traffic with tugboats, paddle steamers and cargo vessels taking fruit, logs, goods and passengers along the fast flowing river to markets near the coast. After the dam was built most of the fruit farms were destroyed giving the Okanagan a grand opportunity to become the primary fruit growing area of BC. The Woman in Red watches and waits.
