Morning of a new dawn

As the skies brighten and the days become longer, I have taken the opportunity to start a new series of paintings. Still inspired by energetic connection, this series is based on the more abstract visual images of energy.

The series begins in the atmosphere as moving molecules collect to form patterns and then become form. The first few in this series show colours which change and coalesce… blues, yellows, reds.

Mist at High Noon

Misty at high noon

After a few days of snow and winter temperatures, this painting already seems to pull back to the late fall when things were mellow.
‘Mist at High Noon’ shows a landscape that is bathed in misty rain. The type of day that the Irish call ‘gentle’ since many days are misty on the western isle.
Growing up in Wales the landscape was often bathed either in a sea mist or a mountain mist. I’ve come to love it especially when it comes with a warm wind.

The series ‘Energetic Universe’ continues my theme of the seen and unseen energies of movement and dynamism. Whether painting landscape or figurative work, the mechanics of quantum physics guide my work. Using initial sketches in chalk pastels, the artwork vibrates with dynamic movement to connect to the very essence of a scene.

‘The idea that everything — even the most solid objects — are full of pulsating vibrant energy at a basic level… that all life is connected by this energy… that just blew my mind. In my artwork I use streams of paint to reveal these unseen energies. Using transparency and movement, I paint an alternate view of reality, where instead of forms and objects governing my vision, the energetic world is in focus.’

This solo exhibition features 14 large canvases including her latest work for 2018.

The display is open to the public for 2 days in Xchanges Gallery, 2223 Government Street, Victoria V8T 4P4.

Summer Heat

As the days of brilliant sunshine pass, its tempting to believe that summer never ends. Thankfully we have no forest fires here, and even though the water levels are low we continue to enjoy summer heat.

I’ve been outside on beaches and hills sketching sandy hollows or the changes in landscape colours as the grass turns gold and the sky maintains a continuous deep blue. Glorious to be warm and see the flowers in Victoria, the parks and gardens all carefully tended. A delight for the eyes!

Studio – new paintings

During the first part of 2018 I’ve been busy with some new large canvases. With the early part of the year dedicated to abstract work, the last few weeks I’ve been recording and painting some environmental portraits around Victoria. Here is the latest completed canvas, size 44 x 48 inches : Rithet’s Grasses.
